Prospect Pubs & Bars, owned by Mark Draper and Dan Shotton, previously of Redcomb Pubs, opens its first London site, The Cambria, Camberwell on Thursday 24th March, adding to the group’s five already trading sites. The Star Pubs & Bars site was acquired by the duo in November 2021, and has since undertaken a major £600,000+ upgrade to create a fresh new look and feel, with new additions to the venue and a colourful garden art installation designed by local brewers, Brixton Brewery.
The main bar has been enlarged to provide a warm and welcoming point of entry for the pub, plus The Cambria now also benefits from a new, 70-cover garden room with retractable roof and sides that’s perfect for semi-alfresco drinking and dining. Outside, there’s a 40-cover enclosed garden, plus upstairs the private dining room has also been upgraded, with space for 40 seated diners, a private bar and bespoke menus for a range of occasions.
Food at The Cambria has also been bought bang up to date, with a new menu that features all your favourite pub classics, homemade best of British burgers, 28-day dry aged flat iron or rib-eye steaks, and a range of delicious, internationally-inspired small plates.
Choose from classics such as Brixton Brewery battered market fish and chips served with crushed minted peas or plant based shepherd’s pie with seasonal greens and vegan gravy. Or dive into small plates including steamed bao buns with crispy soft shell crab tempura, sticky pork belly and chorizo skewers or a rich vegan beetroot houmous with toasted seeds and flat bread.
On Sundays expect statement roasts with all the trimmings, including their trio of roast, a combination of sirloin of beef, herb buttered corn fed chicken and loin of pork. Open all day, every day, The Cambira will also feature an extensive menu of barista-style Fairtrade coffees and teas.
Keeping with a local vibe, the drinks offering at The Cambria centres on nearby Brixton Brewery’s hand-crafted, small batch beers and ales on tap, alongside premium international beers and ciders, wines, spirits and cocktails, plus a vibrant selection of no and low options.
Commenting on the opening, Mark Draper, director at Prospect Pubs & Bars says:
“We’re delighted to bring this landmark South East London pub back into operation after being closed for over two years, and to also be adding our first London pub to the Prospect portfolio.
“When this site was first presented to us, we knew it had massive potential and was also spot on in terms of what we’re trying to achieve within the group. It’s local community status had been missed by so many in the area, and it was great to work with the Star Pubs team to bring the place back to life, and be able to offer this bustling neighbourhood the pub that it deserved.
“We’ve got a great new team in place headed up by accomplished GM, Nadine Prankard, and a fresh new menu offering pub classics plus a modern twist of international sharing plates. We look forward to welcoming our new locals to the site very soon, and to further expanding the Prospect portfolio over the coming months.”
Star Pubs & Bars Business Development Manager, Colin Coogan says: “We’re delighted to have coinvested with Prospect Pubs & Bars to create a fantastic neighbourhood pub. The Cambria has retained its character and individuality whilst improving its look and feel, broadening its appeal. It will be a real asset to the community. We look forward to working on future projects with Prospect Pubs & Bars.”
